I’m not sure any of you know, but I’ve been on placement for the last 3 weeks at Glad creative in Durham. They’ve created some really great work, and after only being around for 2 years they’re already listed in the top 40 design agencies in the UK. 

I’ve been really lucky to get this placement, and even more so now that they’ve asked me to stay for an extra week. The people are great and incredibly friendly, the space is great – if not a bit warm in this heat! 

Not once have I made a cup of tea for anyone, they’re more interested in you actually getting down to the work. I’ve worked on some really great projects so fair, the highlight being drawing chickens in top hats and I’m sure this last final week will bring even more enjoyable work for me to sink my teeth into.

Pet hate: When people say ‘That’s not art it doesn’t mean anything/That’s not art I could do that/That’s not art it doesn’t look like anything’. The point of art is expression- realistically, the most pointless art is really true-to-life or hyper-realistic art thats sole purpose is just to show the artist’s skill. What’s the point of painstakingly recreating something on a canvas that you could easily take a photograph of?

To add to this, calling design art. It’s not art, I don’t create art, I design to communicate a message and that same message needs to be understood by everybody. Art isn’t like that. 

Attractive men with their hair tied back is like my kryptonite.
